March 8, 2018

Today is International Women’s Day!  While we honor the many achievements by women through history and across the world, we must not forget that times are still changing.  This is a prime opportunity to open a discussion regarding the increasing number of women pursuing careers in STEM fields; while historically (and to some degree presently) careers in the sciences and technology industries were male dominated, societal changes over the last two decades have contributed to the rising number of talented young women entering these fields, shattering expectations and traditional views.

Did you Know?

Women make up approximately 24% of the STEM workforce

• 74% of respondents to a 2015 IFT survey under the age of 30 were female. This could indicate a growing number of women within food technology.

• The gender wage gap in STEM fields is smaller than in non-STEM fields!

Even with the current trends, there is still much work to be done to establish an equal opportunity workforce.  At Blue Marble, we strive to emulate the positive change we are beginning to see in STEM. We have an impressive team of hard working, intelligent, and successful women. On our small team, more than 50% of our staff are females with science degrees.

While there is still much work to be done, it is encouraging that more women are starting to pursue careers in STEM!  Today we would like to honor not only the dynamite ladies on our team, but also recognize the women that paved the way and those that continue to shape the future.
